Text: Colossians 1:12-22
Theme: The Preeminence of Christ in all things.
Intro:
- Last week, we looked at verses 3-11 of Colossians chapter 1, as we considered Paul’s Prayer for the Colossians. We noted that Paul’s prayer was that the Colossians would go on in their faith and love toward one another and that they would grow in the knowledge of God and of His will.
- This week we are looking at Paul’s Praise of the Lord Jesus Christ, in verses 12-22. We will break the passage down into the following main sections
I. Paul’s Praise for Salvation’s Blessings
II. Paul’s Praise for Our Redeemer
III. Paul’s Praise for our Reconciliation
This evening we were only able to cover the first half of the passage due to time, but we began by looking at the Apostle Paul’s praise for the blessings of Salvation.
I. Paul offers praise for the blessings of Salvation. (Vs 12-14)
1. Paul praises God for making us worthy of the eternal inheritance of the saints.
2. Paul directs his praise to the Father, through the Son, and by the Holy Spirit. This is the correct patten for our prayers.
3. Paul Praises God for our deliverance from the kingdom of sin and darkness.
II. Paul offers praise for our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. (Vs 14-19)
1. Paul praises Gods for our Redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ.
We will continue with the remainder of the passage next week.
