The Revelation
Study of John’s Revelation
Chapter 19
Chapter 19 – The Lord Returns
The Four Alleluias (Re 19:1-6)
Alleluia! Salvation belongs to the Lord (v.1)
Alleluia means “Praise ye the Lord.” (First found in Ps 104:35)
This is said by a great crowd in heaven, likely Tribulation martyrs
They praised the Lord for four things: 1) Salvation, 2) Glory, 3) Honour, and 4) Power
Alleluia! God has avenged the blood of the saints (v.2-3)
God’s judgments are true and righteous – always!
God judged and avenged!
Alleluia is often reserved to praise God’s vengeance on the wicked.
Chapter 19 – The Lord Returns
The Four Alleluias Continue (Re 19:1-6)
Alleluia! Their torment is eternal (v.3-4)
The eternality of this judgment is also righteous. God never makes mistakes.
This Alleluia is said by the 24 Elders (representing pre-tribulation believers) and the four living creatures as they worship God.
Alleluia! The Lord God omnipotent reigns (v.5-6).
A voice from the throne encouraged the praise.
This may be said by all the inhabitants of heaven combined. This “great multitude” translates the same words as “much people”
(v.1) and “great multitude” (Re 7:9).
Chapter 19 – The Lord Returns
The Marriage of the Lamb (Re 19:7-10)
The scene is still in heaven.
Marriages in Bible times had three parts (descriptions vary).
Betrothal – binding contract between the parents and/or the couple
Presentation – a meal celebrating the marriage, sometimes lengthy
Ceremony – the wedding vows and celebration
In this marriage, the Groom is the centre of attention, not the bride (v.7).
He gets the honour.
She is given the privilege of wearing fine linen, clean and white, picturing her righteousness (v.8).
Chapter 19 – The Lord Returns
The Marriage of the Lamb Continued (Re 19:7-10)
Who will be the bride of Christ and the guests? This is a difficult question to answer clearly.
Israel is never called Christ’s bride.
Church age saints are called Christ’s bride (Ephesians 5:27).
The inhabitants of the heavenly city are called the bride (Re 21:9).
It is puzzling that on the 12 heavenly city gates are the names of the 12 tribes of Israel (Re 21:12).
Where do the Tribulation saints fit in? Many of them are martyrs!
Is it possible that all people of all ages who trust Christ are the bride?
Are the OT and Tribulation saints the blessed guests (v.9; John 3:29)?
The angel forbid John to worship him (v.10)
Chapter 19 – The Lord Returns
The Lord Prepares for Battle (Re 19:11-16)
The Lord will come from heaven riding on a white horse
He is rightfully riding the white horse of royal victory.
He is Faithful and True and a righteous Judge and General (v.11)
His fiery eyes are discerning and he wears all the kingly crowns. (v.12)
His clothes are dipped in Calvary’s blood. He is the Word of God. (v.13)
The armies of heaven follow on white horses dressed in white (v.14)
The words of his mouth are like a sharp sword (v.15)
He will rule with a rod of iron (v.15)
He will tread the wicked as in a winepress (v.15)
He will wear a name KING of kings AND LORD of lords (v.16)
Chapter 19 – The Lord Returns
The Lord Destroys all the Wicked (Re 19:17-21)
An angel calls all the birds to come for a great meal (v.17)
Birds will eat the flesh of kings, captains, mighty men, horses, riders, and of all men (free and bond, small and
great) (v.18).
The beast (Antichrist) and kings of the earth gather in Armageddon to fight with Christ (v.19), (cf. Re 16:16).
The Antichrist and False Prophet are sent to the Lake of Fire (v.20).
They are cast in alive and are still burning 1,000 years later (Re 20:10).
All the other wicked are killed by Christ’s sword (v.21)
Their blood will flow over a mitre deep (Re 14:20).
Possibly, all unbelievers on earth will be killed (v.18).
Personal Application
When Jesus comes as King, all heaven will shout Alleluia!
Will you be among those who shout praises to God?
Believers will be part of the Marriage of the Lamb
Will you be part of Christ’s bride?
All the saints in heaven will ride in Christ’s army.
We will see Christ destroy all the unbelievers.
Judgment is coming! Unbelievers will be destroyed and go to hell.
Are you positive you are among the true believers?
Are you seeking to reach others with the gospel?
Are you living for the glory of God Almighty?
