Getting Right with God

Introduction: Begin by reading Luke 15:11-23. Years ago, I heard a preacher say, “If there was ever a time that you were closer to the Lord than you are right now, then you are backslidden and need to get right with God.” There is truth in that statement worth pondering.
Elimelech, Naomi and their two sons had left Bethlehem in Israel at least ten years earlier to sojourn in Moab during a famine. God saw fit to take the lives of Naomi’s husband and two sons. It appears that they were a prodigal family seeking a better life in a pagan land. Naomi was now a childless widow. Though we cannot see her heart, it certainly appears that Naomi was backslidden and in need of getting right with God. This she proceeded to do.
Transition: As we consider Naomi’s situation, we find five actions that she took in order to get right with God. When we get away from the Lord, we must take the same actions.
