When Joseph reached Egypt, Potiphar bought him. Now Potiphar was an officer of the Pharaoh (king) of Egypt. In fact, he was the captain of the king’s guard. The “guard” may have been the king’s executioners or the king’s bodyguards or both. Psalm 105:17-18 tells us that Joseph spent some time with chains of iron […]
Last week we began a short study on the Wise Man & Virtuous Woman. We studied seven qualities of the wise man found in the book of Proverbs. God does not leave us guessing as to the qualities that we ought to be developing in our lives in order to be godly men and women. […]
This chapter covers many years of time. It is probable that the episode began several years before the brothers sold Joseph. Though the details of this chapter are unsavoury, God placed them in the Bible for our benefit. God wants us to learn from the sinful mistakes of people in the past so that we […]
The book of proverbs describes many character qualities of men and women. Two categories that stand out are “wise men” and “virtuous women”. By studying these qualities, we learn what God expects of us as men and women. The word “wise” describes a man who is has wisdom or is skilful, prudent, cunning, circumspect, or […]
We are going to skip over the family tree of Esau listed in Genesis 36 and move on this morning to Genesis 37. Often the last-born child in a family tends to be spoiled by the parents. They pamper the child, overlook their faults, and treat them with special privileges that the older children never […]
Sadly, many Christians seldom truly study the Bible. Well over 100 years ago, the Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon said, “Old-fashioned believers could give you chapter and verse for what they believed; but how few of such remain!” On the other hand, Ronald Reagan said, “Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all […]
The life of a Christian is not necessarily a life without burdens. Christians get sick, lose loved ones, and have car troubles like everyone else. In fact, often Christians have burdens that unbelievers do not have. Christians carry the burden of persecution. “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” […]
This Christmas season, many people are travelling long distances. I would guess that most of them are going mainly for their own benefit. They want to have a good time. They want to visit relatives or friends. They want to see new things. They want to get away from the busy life and relax. Very […]
Despite the claims of abortionists, the Bible assures us that human life begins at conception (Psa 51:5; Psa 139:13-16; Gen 25:22-26). Normally, about nine months later, that conceived life is born into this world. Jesus was the only exception to that rule. His life did not begin at conception. He has always existed as the […]
As I worked on this message entitled “Supporting God’s Work”, I read these words of the preacher George Mueller. He said, “God judges what we give by what we keep.” As we will see this evening, supporting God’s work is not financial giving, but that certainly is a significant part of it. Transition In Paul’s […]
