Wonders of Creation

24 January 2021 PM – Genesis 1:1-31 – Gen2021 – Scott Childs
Introduction: David Guzik succinctly states, “If you believe Gen. 1:1, you really have no problem believing the rest of the Bible.” Amen!
Transition: This evening I want to highlight four Wonders of Creation that are faith-builders.
  1. Creation was Supernatural
a.         Only God was before the beginning (v.1)
1)         God is eternal. He has always existed. Thus, he was before the beginning. God alone is infinite, eternal and omnipotent.
2)         Henry Morris states, “Although it is impossible for us to comprehend fully this concept of an eternal, transcendent God, the only alternative is the concept of an eternal, self-existing universe; and this concept is also incomprehensible. Eternal God or eternal matter – that is the choice… A personal God is the only adequate Cause to produce such effects.” The Genesis Record, p.40
b.         God created (v.1)
1)         “Only God can create – that is, call into existence that which had no existence.” Morris, p.40
2)         God did not simply make everything from existing matter; He made everything from nothing. In the case of man, God created him from dust that he had just created from nothing.
3)         Nothing happens by chance. Chance itself can do nothing. Guzik God planned every detail of creation perfectly.
c.          God created time, space and matter
1)         In the beginning, God created the beginning. In other words, God created time.
2)         God created the heaven or space. This must refer to more than just the earth’s atmosphere for later when God created the stars they needed space to occupy. Morris states, “It seems, however, that the essential meaning of the word corresponds to our modern term space. Ibid.
3)         God created the earth or matter. Again, Morris believes, “In like manner the term “earth” refers to the component of matter in the universe.” Ibid.
4)         Peter Pett adds, “God first creates the ‘stuff’ of the Universe, ‘the heavens and the earth’.”
2.        Creation was Spoken
a.         “And God said”
1)         This phrase appears 10 times in Genesis one.
2)         God simply spoke all things into existence. (Psalms 33:6) “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” (Psalms 148:5) “Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.
b.         Creation was thus sudden
1)         The moment that God spoke, His request came into existence.
2)         To twist these statements to fit evolution is to make a mock of God’s omnipotence. God did not speak to begin a process of millions of years of chance, struggle and failure to produce what He called for. He simply spoke.
3.        Creation was Extensive
On each day of God’s creation week, He created extensive variety and phenomenal detail with His unlimited power.
a.         God created ALL plant matter with a spoken word.
1)         (Genesis 1:11-12) “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
2)         With just a spoken word, God created every kind of grass, every kind of herb, every kind of tree. According to one report, there are about 390,000 species of plants in the world. The detailed design of each one is unique and amazing, yet God created each one in a moment by His spoken word.
b.         God created ALL objects in space with a spoken word.
1)         (Genesis 1:14-16) “And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
2)         In a moment of time, God created the sun, moon, planets, comets and trillions of stars. He made very one unique. Each has its own orbit, rotation and temperature.
3)         No one knows how many stars exist. One estimate is that there may be as many as two trillion galaxies with at least 100 billion stars in each. Yet, the Psalmist under God’s inspiration wrote, (Psalms 147:4) “He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
c.          God created ALL fish and foul with a spoken word.
1)         (Genesis 1:20-21) “And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
2)         Scientists estimate that the total number of fish species in the world is approximately 33,600. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/how-many-species-of-fish-are-there.html
3)         New research led by the American Museum of Natural History suggests that there are about 18,000 bird species in the world. https://www.amnh.org/about/press-center/new-study-doubles-the-estimate-of-bird-species-in-the-world
4)         Every species of fish and every species of bird has unique characteristics designed by and spoken into existence by God on day 5 of creation.
d.         God created ALL living creatures with a spoken word.
1)         (Genesis 1:24-25) “And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
2)         There are about 5400 species of mammals in the world. Horses, kangaroos, mice, lions, sheep, donkeys, cows, dogs, monkeys, cats, and the list goes on and on. Each has unique DNA able to breed only within its kind but not beyond. Every one was created by the word of God fully equipped, mature and ready to multiply.
e.         God created man with a spoken word.
1)         Read Genesis 1:26.
2)         God did not make man in the image of monkeys, but in His own intelligent image. Man is not an animal.
4.        Creation was Perfect
a.         All that God created was good.
1)         Six times during the creation week, God saw that what He had created was good.
2)         God made no mistakes. Every star, bird, fish, and animal functioned flawlessly. Every sound made by these thousands of species was unique and suited for its creature. Every creature was pre-programmed with unique instinct needed for his survival. Vegetation created by God contained the right nutrients to sustain health in each creature.
b.         God’s overall creation was very good.
1)         Every single thing created by God from planets to plants, from dingos to dinosaurs, from mice to man was very good.
2)         God’s creation had a 100% success rate. God made no mistakes. He never had to issue any recalls. He never had to send a patch or update. (Psalms 104:24) “O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
Conclusion: (Review) (Revelation 4:11) “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” You are not an accident of evolution, but a creation for God’s glory.
